Understanding our electricity and gas tariffs.

We offer a range of tariff options that combine electricity and gas. To make electricity and gas comparisons simpler for you, we've highlighted our most popular plans, designed to complement your day to day.

Find certainty with a fixed tariff.

A fixed tariff is a great way to protect your budget from unexpected price rises. With a fixed tariff, your unit rate and standing charge for electricity and gas are locked in for the duration of your contract, so you'll always know exactly how much you're paying per kWh.

Get flexibility with a variable rate tariff.

What is a variable rate tariff exactly? Put simply, it’s a standard, rolling plan where your unit rates and standing charges go up and down with the wholesale cost of energy.

It’s important to note that this means your bills fluctuate with market prices. However, you have the option to switch your plan or leave altogether, whenever you want, without an exit fee.

Next Flex - our flexible tariff.

  • Variable prices.

  • No contract (this means no exit fees).

  • Cheaper prices when paying by Direct Debit.

Exploring gas prices in the UK.

When it comes to understanding your gas bill, we get it – it can be confusing sometimes. So, let’s start by giving you a breakdown of how UK gas prices are calculated and the influencing factors.

What is the average use for gas in the UK?

Our electricity and gas bills are calculated partly on how much energy we use, alongside factors like network and wholesale costs. Your use depends on many things, including property size, how many people you live with, and how energy efficient you are.

The price you pay for energy is made up of two key elements:

Predicting how much gas your home uses is outside of our control. However, the average gas use for a 2-3 bedroom home housing 2 to 3 people is 11,500 kWh per year.

What influences gas prices?

Gas prices are influenced by a number of things, but demand is a main one. If there's high demand for energy but limited supply, prices usually go up. However, if supply is abundant and demand is low, you’ve guessed it, prices normally fall.

There are also factors like political tensions and disruptions to supply chains. These global influences can trigger rapid price swings in the energy market. Find out more about what drives energy prices up or down and how we make our energy predictions.

What protection is in place for customers?

In 2019, the government introduced the energy price cap to protect customers on energy tariffs with standard variable rates, with reviews every three months.

The energy regulator Ofgem reviews and updates electricity and gas prices, setting a limit on the unit rates and standing charges a supplier can charge for a standard variable tariff.

However, the price cap isn’t an actual 'cap' on your total bill. Remember, the more energy you use the more you will still pay.

The benefits of using a smart meter.

Switching to a smart meter isn’t just a fad – it has the potential to help you manage your energy use more accurately. The end results could help you reduce your energy bills and improve energy efficiency around your home.

How does a smart meter work?

Smart meters work by sending your meter readings directly to us. This means your bills are more accurate and there’s no faffing about submitting a manual reading – talk about convenience.

How can a smart meter help me save money?

But the real beauty of using a smart meter is all the data. You can track your real time electricity and gas use using your in-home display (IHD), which helps to highlight those energy draining appliances. It’s little changes like taking shorter showers or not leaving the TV on standby that could help lower your bills.

If these tips have got you thinking, don’t stop there! Discover more energy saving tips with our handy A-Z guide.

Switch to us today.

Switching energy suppliers needn’t be a hassle - we’ve made it simple! Don’t worry about interruptions to your electricity and gas supply, we’ll ensure the switch happens smoothly in the background. The whole process can take around five working days, with a 14 day cooling off period (just in case). We’ll handle everything with your old supplier, including your previous smart meter.
