Your options will differ depending on whether you join your new energy supplier in your cooling-off period or not.

What are exit fees?
You’ll sometimes pay exit fees if you try to leave a fixed rate tariff before the end of your contract. When you sign up for an energy deal, make sure you check to see how much the exit fees are for one or both fuels.
If you’re on a variable tariff then you won’t have exit fees and are able to switch to a fixed rate tariff or change supplier whenever you want to.
Do I need a smart meter to get an energy deal?
Some energy suppliers do ask that you get a smart meter fitted or have one already if you’re signing up for particular tariffs. If you do go for one of these tariffs, then we’ll be in touch with you to book your smart meter appointment.
What happens if I change my mind about my tariff?
All of our tariffs come with a cooling-off period of 14 days in which you can change your mind and switch back to your original tariff or energy supplier. According to Ofgem, this is for domestic customers only and not for business customers.
Do you offer electricity-only or gas-only tariffs?
Yes you can sign up for just an electricity or gas tariff rather than a dual-fuel tariff. We’ll just quote you for your electricity prices or gas prices as required. If we’re your energy supplier for only one fuel, you might want to bring the other one over to us.
Can I get an off-peak tariff?
Yes both our E.ON Next standard variable tariffs and fixed-rate tariffs can either be single rate or off-peak. To get an off-peak tariff you’ll need to have the right meter, for example an economy 7 meter.

The ‘fix’ and ‘save’ claims are calculated based on the price per unit of the cheapest fixed price contract available on our quote page vs the price of the April 2025 price cap announced by Ofgem based on dual fuel customers consuming medium energy usage as defined by Ofgem’s Typical Domestic Consumption Values (2,700kWh of electricity and 11,500kWh of gas per year), paying by Direct Debit. The information is correct as of 25 February 2025. Cheaper rates are dependent on paying by Direct Debit.
