When it comes to discussing energy bills, they’re no one’s favourite topic. However, there’s good news on the horizon! When the government’s energy cuts take effect in April, we’ll pass every penny of bill savings to you.
We’re always looking out for our customers. That’s why we’re acting fast to ensure the full benefit of the government’s recent announcement lands straight in your pocket. Ready to find out more?
Following Ofgem’s recent price cap announcement and action taken by the UK Government in the 2025 Budget, energy bills will be discounted from 1st April. You can find more information on the government website.
So, where is this money coming from exactly? The government's statement to energy suppliers states the decision to reduce some of the extra costs that are usually added to your energy bill.
From April 2026, the government will be scrapping the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) levy and moving a large chunk of the ‘green levies’ (also known as the Renewables Obligation) to be paid for by general taxation instead of your energy bill.
But what does that mean in actual money? Well, the government predicts this could save the average household around £150 a year. Though the exact amount depends on how much energy you use.
Perhaps you’re wondering if these savings apply to your situation? Especially if you’ve recently signed up to a new tariff.
But don’t worry, whether you’re a fixed, variable, or prepayment customer, the answer is ‘yes’. Plus, you can check your current tariff details at any time if you need to manage your account.
You won’t need to call or chase us for the money that’s rightfully yours. We’re working closely with the government and regulators to ensure it’s done automatically in the fairest way possible.
Our aim is to reflect these savings in your unit rates, so your bills will be lower in line with your energy use. So, when you get your bill or statement from April 2026, you should see the lower rates applied.
In the meantime, we’ll keep you up to date with any new developments.
We’re committed to being completely open with you. Passing on these government cuts in full is just one part of how we’re aiming to build a fairer energy market for all of you.
However, despite this good news, energy costs are still a challenge for many UK households. This is why we keep working as hard as we can to provide accurate information and support whenever the landscape changes.
Looking for more ways to lower your bills? We have plenty of practical advice on saving energy around your home.
