Frequently asked questions about joining us.

How do I join E.ON Next?

Easy-peasy, we’ll just need to find the right tariff for you. Follow our step by step process and you’ll be enjoying positive energy before you know it.

Why join E.ON Next?

When you join E.ON Next for your home’s electricity and gas supply, you get:

  • Exclusive discounts on home energy tech. T&Cs apply.

  • Dedicated Energy Specialists, providing you with expert service whatever your query.

  • The Energy Switch Guarantee, which means you'll get a safe and speedy switch to us.

Do I need to provide anything to my existing supplier when I join E.ON Next?

No, we’ll handle all of that for you, including sending them your final meter readings. We do recommend clearing any outstanding balance with them to help make your switch go through as smoothly as possible. Just moved into a property? Make sure you have contacted the existing supplier before starting your switch to E.ON Next.

When will you need my opening meter readings?

We’ll let you know when we need your opening meter readings, which you can give to us through your online account.

We accept opening meter readings up to 5 days either side of your switch date. If we don’t get your readings then we’ll estimate them for you.

Trouble adding readings online? Just send these through to us via email or WhatsApp.

How long does it take to switch energy supplier?

It can take up to 5 working days to process your switch. We'll let you know how the switch is going and when you need to give us any information or meter readings.

What should I do if my supplier is objecting to me switching to E.ON Next?

You’ll need to get in contact with them as soon as possible, as we can’t speak to them on your behalf. They can then talk you through the next steps. Email us or WhatsApp us after you have spoken to your other supplier.

How do I know when my switch to E.ON Next is complete?

You can track your switch at any time by signing into your online account. We’ll provide you with an estimated start date and let you know once your switch is complete. You will receive an email on the morning of the switch to confirm it has completed successfully.

What should I do if I haven’t had a final bill from my previous supplier?

It can take up to 6 weeks for everything to be sorted, so you might need to wait a bit longer for your final bill. However if it’s been over 6 weeks then you should get in touch with your previous supplier.

Will my smart meter work if I join E.ON?

Yes, your smart meters will still work if you join us from a different supplier. It can take up to 2 weeks for the smart meter to start communicating.

However, depending on how old your smart meter is, we might not be able to get meter readings from it, which means you’ll have to give them to us yourself.

If you can’t see smart meter readings in your account after 2 weeks, contact us and we’ll investigate.

My first energy bill is higher than expected. Why is that?

Your first energy bill may cover a slightly longer period than a standard month, depending on when your switch is completed. It also ensures your Direct Debit is set at the right level to cover your future energy use. To ensure you only pay for what you use, please submit a meter reading as soon as your switch is complete.

When will my first Direct Debit be taken, and can I change the date?

We usually take your first payment about 14 days after you join us. You have full control over this—once your account is set up, you can increase your payments to any amount you wish. If you want to reduce your payment by more than 10%, please get in touch by email or WhatsApp.

I already have a smart meter. Do I need to do anything?

In most cases, no! We’ll automatically attempt to connect to your smart meter.

  • SMETS2 (newer): These usually switch over seamlessly within 14 days.

  • SMETS1 (older): We may ask for a manual reading for the first month while we "wake up" the smart connection.

∫Check your in-home display (IHD). If it shows your new E.ON Next tariff, you’re good to go!

What happens to the credit I had with my old energy supplier?

Your old energy supplier is responsible for refunding any credit balance. This usually happens within 10 working days of them issuing your final bill. We provide them with your opening meter reading to ensure the final calculation is 100% accurate.
