How to activate emergency credit on a SMETS2 Aclara Electric meter.
Emergency credit becomes available when your balance drops below £2.00.
Press A repeatedly until you reach Meter Balance. You will be asked if you want to activate emergency credit.
Press A, the meter will then show you the emergency credit balance of £0.00 (you've not used any yet).
Press A, and you'll be asked to either press A to cancel or press B to activate emergency credit.
Press B to activate emergency credit. Emergency credit balance will change to £5.00.
You'll need to top up again before it reaches £0.00 to prevent your meter self disconnecting.
How to navigate the menu on your SMETS2 Aclara Electric meter.
The meter has two buttons. One labelled A and the other labelled B.
1. Press Button A to move through the menu
Below are the 16 menu options:
Total Active Import KWH - Is the total of all the readings on the meter.
Total Active Export KWH - Is the total of all the export readings on the meter (Used for things like solar panels).
TOU Rate 1 – Reading on rate 1.
TOU Rate 2 – Reading on rate 2.
TOU Rate 3 – Reading on rate 3.
TOU Rate 4 – Reading on rate 4.
Debt to Clear – Minimum top up amount needed to bring the supply back on.
Accumulated Debt – This is the amount of debt to be paid at present, this is an accumulation of any emergency credit used, debt repayment amounts and energy consumed during friendly hours.
Aggregated Debt – This is the total amount of debt on the account.
Audible Alert setting – This is used to mute or unmute audible alerts
Meter Balance – The amount of credit on the meter excluding emergency credit..
Emergency Credit Balance – The amount of emergency credit you have used.
Emergency Credit Balance available/ not available – The amount of emergency credit available to you.
Available Credit – The amount of credit on the meter including emergency credit.
Enter Top Up – To manually enter an UTRN.
Last 5 Credits – A view of the last 5 top ups you’ve made.
How to reactivate your supply after your SMETS2 Aclara Electric meter has been disconnected.
When the meter has self-disconnected because it has run out of credit, you'll need to either top up again, or activate your emergency credit. Once your meter is back in credit, you'll need to re-activate the supply:
Press A repeatedly until you reach the Emergency Credit Balance. The display should read RELAY ARMED.
Press both A and B together to reconnect the meter.
You should hear a clicking sound. That means your supply has now been re-activated.
How to use your top up code (UTRN), if your payment hasn't reached your SMETS2 Aclara Electric meter.
If your payment hasn’t reached your meter, you can easily top up using the 20 digit top up code (sometimes referred to as a UTRN) that we'll send to you with your payment confirmation. If you have made a payment in store, you'll find this code on your receipt.
Press A repeatedly until you reach Enter Top Up Code
Press and hold A
Enter your 20 Digit UTRN using the A and B buttons
The A button is used to select a number between 0-9
The B button moves to the next digit
Repeat the steps a. & b. until you've entered the full 20 digit code
On the last digit, press and hold B to submit your UTRN
If the UTRN is accepted it will be shown on the meter and the balance will increase
If you see the message INVALID, press A and then try entering your code again, ensuring all digits are entered correctly.
How to view your balance on a SMETS2 Aclara Electric meter.
Press A repeatedly until you reach Meter Balance is displayed.
If the meter is in credit, the positive balance will be shown on screen.
If there's debt on the meter, this'll be shown as a negative balance.
How to view your debt on a SMETS2 Aclara Electric meter.
Press A repeatedly until you reach Debt to Clear. This is the minimum top up amount needed to bring the supply back on if you are off supply .
Press A again to reach Accumulated Debt. This is the amount of debt to be paid at present, this is an accumulation of any emergency credit used, debt repayment amounts and energy consumed during friendly hours .
Press A again to reach Aggregated Debt. This is the total amount of debt on the account.

How to reactivate your supply after your SMETS2 EDMI Electric ES meter has been disconnected.
When your meter has self-disconnected because it has run out of credit, you'll see the message NO CREDIT, MINTP followed by an amount. This is the minimum top up you need to make to get your supply back on.
You'll first need to make sure you have topped up by the minimum top up amount.
You should then see the message ARMED HOLD OK.
Press and hold the OK Button until you see the message ENABLED.
Your supply should now be reconnected.

Ensure all gas appliances are switched off.
Press and hold OK to re-activate your supply.
If you see the message CAUTION SWITCH OFF APPLIANCES, please repeat from step 4. The meter has a safety mechanism to prevent the gas supply reconnecting if it detects gas flowing straight away.
You'll need to top up again before it reaches £0.00 to prevent your meter self disconnecting.

Your meter also has a dedicated prepayment menu. This is where you'll find most of your options:
Press B repeatedly to navigate to the PREPAYMENT menu, then press C.
Navigate through the menu options using B, pressing C to enter.
TOPUP LOGS: This will display details of the last five top ups made.
NEW PAYMENT: This is where you can enter a payment/ UTRN manually.
DEBT: This will provide a view of your debt position.
EMERG. CREDIT: This is where you can activate emergency credit.

When your meter has self disconnected because it has run out of credit, you'll need to either top up again, or activate your emergency credit. Once your meter is back in credit, you'll need to re-activate the supply.

If you see an error message, please check all your gas appliances are switched off and try again.

You'll be asked if you want to Accept EC? Yes/No. Press A for Yes or B for No.
If you choose No, or you don't get prompted, you can find the option manually in the menu:
Press B to light up the display screen.
Press A to bring up the meter menu.
Press B until PREPAYMENT is displayed. Then press A to select.
Press B until FINANCIALS is displayed. Then press A to select.
You'll be asked if you want to Accept EC? Yes/No. Press A for Yes or B for No.

If the meter's in emergency credit the balance shown will be a negative value and *EC* will be displayed next to the meter balance.

Prep D Val - The Total value of both debts on rate 1 and rate 2.
Prep D RR - The percentage of each top up designated to debt recovery.

If the UTRN is valid you will see a Top-Up accepted message.
