Frequently asked questions
Is E.ON Next's heat pump tariff worth it?
Next Pumped comes with a period of cheaper electricity (per unit) every day. It's definitely worth it if you take advantage of the discounted slot. But if you sign up then feel that you're unable to - no problem. There are no exit fees if you decide to leave.
Is a heat pump electricity tariff better than a standard variable tariff?
Our air source heat pump electricity tariff is better value for homes with ASHPs than the standard variable tariff (Next Flex). That's because it is designed to suit the different energy consumption patterns of an ASHP, with a period of cheaper electricity (per unit) every day.
What is a time of use tariff?
With a time of use tariff, the price you pay for electricity changes depends on the time of day. Imagine it's like rush hour on the train. When everyone wants to use electricity at the same time (like evenings when people come home), it costs more. But if you use electricity at quieter times (like the middle of the night or early morning), it's cheaper. This encourages people to shift their energy usage to off-peak times, which helps balance the demand on the electricity grid. How should I change my usage to get the best savings available with Next Pumped?
While different homes have different levels of insulation and heat loss, the following could be a good starting point:
- Make sure you are getting the maximum benefit from lower cost electricity at night (10pm - 6am)
- Set your hot water to heat during off-peak times (10pm - 6am) and ensure that your weekly Legionella cycle runs during this time
- If you do need to top your hot water up during the day, we recommend avoiding doing it in the peak period (4pm - 7pm)
- You may want to consider slightly overheating your home (by a degree or so above your normal target temperature) an hour or two before the peak period starts at 4pm. Then drop the heating by a degree or so below your normal target temperature between 4pm - 7pm
- Run your white goods, such as your washing machine and dishwasher during off peak times (10pm - 6am)
Although you could save money by shifting your energy use to the times when your rates are cheaper, remember you can still use it whenever you need it!
The legal bit.
- 1. Next Pumped tariff saving calculations assume an electric consumption of 5,766.67 kWh, charging 21% of electric consumption during Next Pumped Fixed 12m V10 super off-peak hours (10pm-6am), 60% of consumption during off-peak (7pm to 10pm and 6am to 4pm) and 19% of consumption during peak hours (4pm to 7pm); compared to charging at 24.674p/kWh (national average rate and will vary by region) standard variable rate from 1 April 2026, which is equivalent to £43.44 saved compared to our standard tariff. Actual savings may vary depending on individual usage patterns. T&Cs apply. Pricing may vary by region. Please check your quote.
