Frequently asked questions
Is my EV supported?
We support a wide range of EVs! To see if your car is compatible, check our supported EVs page.
To make the list easier to read, we don't always include every specific variant or model-year. For example, if you own a 2021 VW "Life" ID.3 Pro Performance, you should look for the VW ID.3 Pro Performance on the list.
Similarly, in the E.ON Next Home app a model year (e.g., 2021) should be interpreted as the minimum supported version for that car's platform.
If your EV isn't on the list yet, please check back soon! In the meantime, you can still explore our Next Drive tariff.
Is my charger supported?
You can connect to Next Drive Smart in two ways:
- Directly via your compatible electric vehicle.
- Via a supported smart charger.
The following chargers are supported: Zappi
Connecting through a supported charger means compatibility isn’t dependent on your vehicle manufacturer - giving more customers access to smart charging benefits.
We’ll be adding more supported chargers over time, so check back for updates.
What are the smart meter requirements?
In order to be eligible for Next Drive Smart you must have a working smart meter, and we must be able to receive half hourly reads. If you don't have a smart meter you can contact us to install one at your property.
Upon joining the tariff we must ensure we can connect to your smart meter:
-
If you are an existing E.ON Next customer, it can take up to 5 days to get you onto the Next Drive Smart tariff whilst we carry out some smart meter checks, if they are needed. You'll remain on your current tariff during this time.
-
If you are a new customer, it can take up to 2 weeks. You'll remain on Next Flex during this time and our team will contact you once you are ready to switch to Next Drive Smart.
What if I have multiple EVs?
Right now we are only able to support one EV on the Next Drive Smart tariff. You will only be able to connect one vehicle in the E.ON Next Home app.
How does smart charging work?
Our E.ON Next Home app automatically charges your car during times when electricity is cheapest. You simply set when you need your car ready between 4am and 11am, and what level of charge you want, and we'll take care of the rest.
Please note if you fail to use the smart charging feature consistently, we have the right to remove you from the tariff. You can find out more information in the T&Cs at https://www.eonnext.com/policies/terms-and-conditions.
How do I connect?
Once you've downloaded the E.ON Next Home app, please follow the steps in the app. If you need support, we have a dedicated help page for you here. Check out our top tips to help you connect.
Why is my car manufacturer charging me a fee to enable smart charge?
We are aware that some car manufacturers charge a subscription fee to smart charge via their app. We are looking into this issue currently.
Soon we will be able to offer the ability to connect directly via your charger rather than your vehicle, which should remove this barrier.
When are the off-peak times?
Whenever you schedule your car to charge using the E.ON Next Home app, your electricity will be billed at 8p per kWh - even if this is outside the off-peak window. On top of this you'll get the regular off-peak hours between 12am and 6am, giving you the longest and cheapest off-peak window on the market.
What if I need to charge my car now?
If you need to override your current Next Drive Smart charging schedule, you can do so using the "Boost" feature in the E.ON Next Home app.
If you do this during peak hours, you'll be billed at the peak rate - any boost charges during off-peak hours will be billed at the off-peak rate.
Is there an exit fee?
No, there are no exit fees with Next Drive Smart. You can switch at any time.
