Key tariff benefits.

Unlock cheaper weekend energy.

When you use electricity between 12-4pm on Saturdays and Sundays, you’ll only pay the standing charge. So you could clock up smart savings by running your larger appliances during this ‘off-peak’ window. Times outside of this period have one set unit rate.1

Quick savings.

Take control of your energy costs by shifting your electricity use away from ‘peak’ times and make your weekends work for you. Whether it’s scheduling the dishwasher while you’re out on Saturday or setting the slow cooker for Sunday afternoon. You’ll also be reducing the pressure on the national grid, helping to foster a more sustainable energy ecosystem.

Easy energy tips: Shift heavy electricity use to the cheaper weekend window.

Here are some easy tips to make savings by shifting your heavy electricity use to the cheapest times at the weekends.

Shift energy draining appliances.

Shift heavy appliances that use more energy to the ‘off-peak’ (12-4pm) weekend window, including:

  • Washing machines and tumble dryers.

  • Panel, fan and immersion heaters.

  • Electric cookers and ovens.

  • Air conditioning units.

  • Electric showers.

Set a timer on your appliances.

Going to be out and about this weekend? Don’t worry about it. Many modern appliances have built-in timers. So you could set your dishwasher, washing machine, or slow cooker to come on during the ‘off-peak’ window and still make the most of that cheaper 0p per kWh rate.

Frequently asked questions

Why is E.ON Next offering a free electricity use weekend plan?

Our Next Weekend Saver tariff is currently a BETA product and part of a pilot offer. We’re developing Next Weekend Saver to help expand our Time of Use (ToU) tariff offering.

ToU is a type of pricing structure where the price of electricity varies depending on the time of day. Electricity costs less when demand is low and more when demand is high, rewarding those customers who use energy during off-peak (or super off-peak) hours.

We want to make ToU tariffs more accessible and believe many customers could relate to the shifting structure this tariff offers.

What time is free electricity use on the Next Weekend Saver tariff?

The electricity unit rate of 0p/kWh takes effect between 12pm and 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays. However, it’s important to note that the standing charge still applies. Electricity used outside these hours is charged at your applicable tariff rate.

Do I need a smart meter for the Next Weekend Saver tariff?

Yes, to be eligible you need to have a functioning smart meter that can send half-hourly usage data to us.

Interested in getting a smart meter? Book a smart meter appointment, and we can look into available options.

Can I get free weekend electricity use with an electric vehicle (EV)?

Yes, this tariff is available to customers who have an EV charger. You can let us know by filling out the typeform.

Why does my smart meter need to send half-hourly meter readings?

Half-hourly meter readings are important in eliminating estimated billing, unlocking highly accurate ToU tariffs, and reducing energy use waste.

Why does my in-home display not correspond with my tariff?

Due to the way this tariff works, your in-home display will stop working. However, you'll be able to keep up to date with your energy use through the E.ON Next app.
